Trasloco
Maggiori details on this experience of moving together in first post of the "new" blog .

ISIE 3 and 4
Chronicle of the second and third to Cambridge. These last two days have been interesting though perhaps less in terms of previous interventions on stage. In return we got to talking and getting to know other interesting people and have a look at the demo section and more approdondito the poster where we found some interesting ideas such as Xsensor (an application for smartphones and PDAs that you submit, at regular intervals, a questionnaire, which is then compiled at different times of day and context in which the interviewee is in that time) or as funny reactable conducted by two English boys (moving a table in which specific objects of different shapes and materials can compose music). Unfortunately we have not seen in the light of the demo project Augmented hybrid ecosystems (ie, the dancing pig pro ject) that we had submitted the first day. Returning to the speech ... On the second day I was called by the Expert panel with Don Norman, Liam Bannon, Mark Rouncefield and Neville Moray . Not that there have been specific content, but the whole thing was pretty funny. In the afternoon noteworthy intervention Sebastien Duval (a French guy who works in Japan) who presented a study on acceptance by users of wearable computers and the second keynote Japanese increasingly held by a mysterious girl who spoke to + a little English and nothing has reappeared, and in which the robot had shown with great pride the Japanese the day before ... I did a little investigation and all the people I interviewed were not able to explain what center with the rest of the presentation. At the close of the day most of the participants (including us) took part in a guided walk through the streets of Cambridge and a beautiful boat ride where we could admire the sunset from a different angle the beautiful colleges of Cambridge ( here some photos taken by Luke ). Here are several colleges all private lessons are held in the classrooms of the departments that are usually reached by bike from the students. During dinner we learned about Cristina Costa, who works in Trento and in London with a girl (Karen Martin - University College), who told us of an interesting project called Cityware . The third and last half day was quite intense. It should be noted a joint intervention by Lynne Hamill and Richard Harper recounted the past of smart homes in Victorian times trying to figure out on the basis of the relationship between servitude and home owners what kind of technology should populate the homes of the future. The results are interesting because they show that people do not look at all smart objects but simple things that they do their work without being seen and not requiring special communication needs. During the morning, or heard mention Goffmann at least a couple of times. The final keynote on electronic music was not bad ev I found some hints of some theoretical interest. To Finally, before lunch, a closing with a very nice PhotoStory composed of many images taken during the day and assembled its soundtrack. At the end of Marco Combetto MSR was quite moved. The last few days I've seen work really messy and moltissma devote attention to all the boys from inviting more illustrious last present. Overall I got a good deal of interesting stimuli. Buetooth for the use of a range of applications in general sociological use of ethnographic techniques of which they very often use this group of computer scientists. A little bit surprising that all research undertaken in previous cultural studies does not seem to be taken very consderazione. However, an interesting experience and certainly repeat that I recommend to everyone.

ISIE second day
Second day with some interesting surprise ending of the presentation of all posters in three minutes under the so-called poster madness that now we know what it refers. After the usual sumptuous breakfast in the Great Hall today all started at 9:45. After a brief introduction by Richard Harper and Tom Rodden took the stage as planned Donald Norman. The old man was very good in presentation and style Norman said in a series of large and small accidents caused by bad design of objects. The basic thesis is that the environments intelligence can not exist because there is an essential condition that Norman called Common Ground. A group of artifacts may have a common ground as a group of people but a mixed group lacks this key feature. One of the interesting questions (asked by Lucia Terrenghi - a smart girl) who has questioned this distinction as the artifacts are now stressing from time immemorial the human Common Ground in Norman speaks. I've seen in Guru falter a bit 'but then he explained that he talks about intelligent artifacts and are not artifacts. The speech by Don Norman (a very quiet type who stopped all day answering questions for everyone) was followed by a session called Concepts in human computer interaction. Very theoretical but worthy of note is the last of the three operations performed by Alex Taylor from Microsoft Research that was aimed at highlighting the importance of context for the idea of intelligence. What is most interesting is the manner in which the researcher has demonstrated his thesis by showing that a series of films taken from a research background of much ethnographic mold which consisted of installing multiple cameras in some passenger cars to resume what happens while on the road everyday. Very well done and above all very visual sociology. The second panel on smart homes, called Technological and Social infrastructure for the home always point out the last speech of a group of researchers from Microsoft Research that they have also conducted extensive ethnographic research to study behavior in a household with specific reference to communication and positioning of objects. It came out two prototypes. The first is a kind of screen that supports writing (with a GSM connection) to which you can send text messages and on which you can write with pen and note that replies to messages. The prototype, unlike the majority of stuff you see here was actually experienced in the lives of a number of families. Very interesting is the possibility to perform analysis of these reports to better understand the dynamics of communication and identity construction in a family environment. The second prototype shown was about a sort of bowl (a big bowl for objects), where it was possible to place a number of technological devices (as is done in accordance with a series of random objects). The bowl shown is able to capture files (photos and images) on these devices (mobile phones, cameras, etc.). And show them the same bowl (inside). Photos can also be handled as if the surface of the bowl if it were a touch screen. Among the few things that might be seen to say wow from the technological point of view. Then there was the poster madness where the brave Luke defended our poster in the best way possible given the available time (3 minutes), the audience not quite accustomed to hearing about the environment of social systems (and even systems social) and not least the fact that he knew 10 minutes before the rules of the thing. I shot a little video of the event . The audio and video is painful but you also have the same result to show that Luke has earned the loaf. Last speech of the day was the Japanese Ryohei Nakatsu, who spoke of the role of robots in an intelligent environment. He seemed a bit 'but the surgery was performed at times hilarious (see robot doing the tai-chi is not an everyday thing). UPDATE: The movie Luca presenting our poster is now online to four meters by Donald Norman.

Which Is The Best Fan Brand In India
Play Create, Learn
As careful readers of this blog will know this week and I Luca Rossi we are in Cambridge UK to assist and participate in 'International Symposium on Intelligent Environments organized by the European research lab at Microsoft. The conference begins today but yesterday we saw an event called Learn Play For quite interesting. Before going into details of the contents of this day tell two things about where we are and the organization. Our hospitality was held at Homerton College, Cambridge. If you can imagine the typical English college (of those seen in Harry Potter in the moment rather than Poets Society) should have rather precise idea of the kind of place I'm talking about. For the others I shot a short film . In the morning we have breakfast at the Great Hall so that it can not be adequately described in words (see movie ). During the day yesterday we moved to College dall'Homerton within Microsoft Research. A series of buildings of which the main one is called William Gates Building. I suppose that just about everything in this part of Cambridge was financed by Uncle Bill. In the lobby of the building where the seminar took place, there are paintings, several plasma screens, a reception and a demonstration of choisco xbox 360 :-). Of course, secure network access, badges, etc.. The orgaizzazione frankly was impeccable. I think Marco Combetto and all the staff at Microsoft Research is doing a great and difficult work. Turning to the content there is to say that I have rarely heard the words of sociologists and sociology so frequently as today. The conference to which we witnessed yesterday was the final event of the program during the same name which were presented by their respective research groups, the main results achieved after approximately one year of work. Each group had at his disposal a total 45 minutes including discussion. During the debate, the project was really dissected and analyzed in detail, were suggested possible improvements or development prospects for the future. The first action we saw involved a project known as @ Home Messaging. That is a touch screen-based device that can support the communication replacement home or alongside the traditional forms of communication such as written on the fridge or post it left for home. The main innovation was the ability to send text, pictures and short videos to this kind of board via mobile phones (via bluetooth, sms, mms). Interesting piece of research purely ethnographic-style that preceded the design and development of the system. The prototype shown has not been felt on a very futuristic. Do not underestimate, however, be implied in the instrument to display and record this type of communication enabling domestic subsequent analysis of the content and type of messages exchanged (ie a kind of semantics of the social system family). The second operation involved a project in the middle between the artistic performance and technology research. Everything is well described in the project site and therefore I will only say that the project researchers and colleagues have turned the streets of Cambridge with a kiosk and 4 stations asking portable to meet people in the database to include one of their regrets. In return, the system offers the ability to view and print the 5 regrets that come closest to the entry. Original idea and nice. The use of tags instead of rigid descriptive categories would allow a chance to display tag clouds waterway regrets. As has been pointed out in a question as to the inclusion of regret when the intensity of the same is sought this information is not returned on output. Would it have been helpful to see a certain color characterized by the intensity of regret. Of course it could also be interesting to analyze these messages and make it possible to send messages via sms.
Il titolo era Affective Diary e riguardava lo sviluppo di un software che consenta di visualizzare la propria storia staff based on recordings of a number of devices we carry with us. In particular, some of these sensors were made of ah hoc and measured a range of body parameters (sweat, external temperature, etc.).. Based on these parameters is an icon generated more or less upright, more or less red depending on these parameters. This timeline will also see the sent and received text messages and possibly the presence of Bluetooth devices nearby. The result was extremely interesting and looks very well done. The idea is that each user can then view and modify these images to reflect on the moments of stress and calm in their daily lives. Do not underestimate Furthermore, the ability to share these tracks with others (think of a couple who learn their report based on these parameters "And of course I replied I was wrong ... looks like red here!"). Very interesting. The fifth project, called e-coology concerns an augmented reality environment designed specifically for learning the principles of ecology by children. The technical implementation is interesting (very well done all part of animation of 3D models) but overall the project has not convinced me a lot. Need for expensive equipment and does not seem so immediate, the ability to switch from one course to another without going against a long period of development. The sixth and final draft was presented by an Italian group of the Polytechnic of Milan. The basic idea is to create a navigation device in a broad musical repertoire with better performance than those of current systems in the different MP3 players on the market. The metaphor used is that of the radio dial. Virtually all the songs are automatically mapped on the basis of a set of parameters quantitatively calculable (as the tonal strength or tick) on a two-dimensional space. The user with a trackball can explore this area in search of the song you prefer to listen at that time. The researchers also carried out some comparative tests on it. The results, as presented as positive, I do not think they were exceptional. But even this idea is pretty smart. Also very useful final summary made by the organizers. In particular, in a slide were highlighted the common features of these projects are: 1) Augmented / Mixed Reality 2) Self-reflection, story telling, emotion, memory 3) Social oriented applications 4) Enabling people to communicate 5) Mobile Life support all extremely interesting. At the end of a drink made from wine or capirgna. Then yesterday evening buffet in a beautiful room with dell'Homerton pianist and waiters in livery. At one point I see an old man ... I read the badge ... Don Norman ... And among some start again from him.

TagClouds Politiche 2006
time ago I discovered a site to automatically create Tag Clouds from one or more rss feed.

Christian Sample Welcome Address
Quando it comes with a keyboard on the screen must not have imagined a mere simulation of the keyboard tradizioale. Experts on the history of technology often citing the case of evolution from the keyboard of the typewriter to the computer. The layout of the letters, which in the typewriter was constrained by the mechanical object, remained unchanged in spite of the fact that alternative layout showed a higher efficiency. Computer keyboards do not exist in the mechanical restrictions that led to the QWERTY layout and yet we have maintained the same standard precendete. Similarly it seems that there has been moved, at least at an early stage, for the simulated keyboard on the screen. Having the entire set of buttons in a certain way (see the handhelds, tablet PCs or machines to make the tickets from the station) is certainly not the most efficient way to simulate a keyboard (ie SIP, soft input panel). With the UMPC I have seen the first alternative in this regard.
The layout of the buttons in the bottom corners is certainly unusual but I think, having experience with a PDA like the JASJAR EMI, which will be very useful especially in terms of mobility. However, I think that we will use the video button in the next few years will still be different. What need is there to show all buttons on the screen when ineffective, based on the chosen language, we know that only some letters may follow those actually be written? Big buttons (easy to press with your fingers) and saving screen space by showing only the relevant letters. A key role is then played dall'autocompletamento T9 style. So the device of the future will be no keyboard

Super pubblico
Again Danah Boyd has published a contribution very interesting. This time the theme is the public or rather its contemporary version that Danah calls "super public". As the same author refers is not clear but a DEFINITION of an idea in progress. Surely the concept of the public at the time of FarsiMedia is something at once more radical and pervasive than in the past. Surely there is a further freeing of the local link. The public, and this by Gutenberg on, is no longer around to sharing our space-time. Or rather it is just that. life has really screwed with the notion of public, traditional Removing situationism (Goffman) That connects strangers. If the Kenyan farmer is connected to the Internet and reads Inglese, he can be a part of Bloomberg's public via the New York Times. (...)
People's notion of public radically changes When They Have to account for the Kenyan farmer, lurking Their boss, and the person who will access their speech months from now. People's idea of a public is traditionally bounded by space, time and audience - the park is a public that people understand. And, yet, this is all being disrupted.
(...)
What does it mean to speak across time and space to an unknown audience? What happens when you cannot predict who will witness your act because they are not visible now, even though they may be tomorrow? How do people learn to deal with a public larger and more diverse than the one they learned to make sense of as teenagers? How are teenagers affected by growing up in an environment where they can assume super publics? I want to talk about what it means to speak for all time and space, to audiences you cannot conceptualize. These sentences clearly emphasize an important aspect of FarsiMedia. Access to communication with a public, a time of a few shareholders, is now open to all. As with traditional media (novels, movies, to soap operas, reality shows) the contents of these conversations very often relate experiences. Constant exposure to these experiences are constantly changing (as always). What seems different today is the amount and frequency of these experiences of experience and constant contact with potential experience very different from those of our own social networks or from those provided by the mass media. Observe the experiences of a senior being a young person, a mother being a man, a student being a professor, a Chinese being a European ... contact with different points of view helps to relativize their own perspective and perhaps, in what way, makes it necessary to assert it. Not in the sense of imposing it but in order to propose it. After all the experiences and private thoughts are not useful to the society of communication. This is like few other precious material capable of understanding and thus enable further notice. The system works best if everything is public. Thus there is still room for the private sector in the era of "super public"? What will become of privacy at the time of FarsiMedia? PS Publications Danah Boyd can be downloaded free online.
A reporter recently asked me why kids today have no shame. I told her it was her fault. Media is obsessed with revealing the backstage of people in the public eye - celebrities, politicians, etc. More recently, they've created a public eye to put people into - Survivor, Real World, etc. Open digital expression systems coupled with global networks took it one step farther by saying that anyone could operate as media and expose anyone else. What's juicy is what people want to hide and thus, the media (all media) goes after this like hawks. Add the post-9/11 attitude that if you hide something, you are clearly a terrorist. Should it surprise anyone that teenagers have responded by exposing everything with pride? What better way to react to a super public where everyone is working as paparazzi? There's nothing juicy about exposing what's Already exposed. Do it yourself and You Have Nothing to worry about. These are the kinds of things That are emerging as people face life in super publics.

Get your own chart! It seems interesting. Then it is even more interesting to see content. There would be material to a search but I will only bring a touch of color. The graphomania Silvio has in fact sparked the imagination of bloggers who have produced several hypotheses on the possible content of scribbles that our president has prepared with its splendid feathers for nearly the entire transmission. Following are two of the most credible hypothesis.

Alcune certezze sulle radici del futuro

The first certainty is that the cover will this (pdf). The image I found on Flickr ! and the author (Philippe Pellissier) has kindly granted me the rights to use.
For the more skeptical I also found a page FrancoAngeli site dedicated to book your date but that should still be gradually modified to reflect the processing times and release dates. The latest information I have is that the volume should be in bookstores by the end of April / early May.

La nuova interfaccia utente di Office 2007
interfaces are typically built with the express purpose of creating opacity levels between the user and the operating system they are using. These levels of opacity tend to conceal the true functioning of the system by exposing only the commands that the user really needs to complete its tasks. The dialectic between opacity and transparency is a classic reflection on the relationship between man and compter and who is interested in the work of Sherry Turkle and Donald Norman much food for thought in this direction. What that is interesting in this document introducing the new interface of Office 2007 is precisely the idea behind the new design. Research on the IU Office of the latter have showed that the vast majority of people totally ignores most of the advanced features offered by these software. From this point of view the consistency of the interfaces between the different versions, if a party is allowed to pass without the need for new training from Office 95 to Office 2003, is starting to show its limits. The number of features in the meantime has grown but the system of menus and sub-menu hides the more advanced options and potentially useful in terms of productivity in places too remote for the average user. Hence the idea (not a little risky) to revolutionize the operations of the Office through the menu system to that of Command Tabs.
(click to enlarge) For example, Word has a number of Command Tabs such as writing, inserting, page layout, working with references, doing mailings, and then review the documents (I predict that the location names in Italian these activities will be hard ...). Each Command Tab will have a certain set of icons that should help you focus on the task in progress and at the same time make clear the advanced features related to that activity. Ineffective when you consider how little used feature that will greatly simplify the job as a mail merge and cooperation to review the documents that you can not share at least the analysis that led to this idea. More details and several screenshots of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and Access this post to a blog kept by the developers of Office.

Blog per i parlamentari cinesi
BetaNews is reporting that, in an attempt to improve the relationship between parliament and citizens, China has made available to all Members a service to keep a blog . At the moment there are not many Chinese parliamentarians have decided to make use of this service and nearly all the post are (obviously) in favor of the policies implemented by the government and the laws passed by parliament. The funny thing is that the media system can not find thematic ideas in a sea of content are all so equal. And these contents, however, create a backdrop against which any minimum difference is apparent. It happens so that the first item that moves the slightest public criticism, in this case the courageous parliamentary Pan Shiyi, ends straight on international agencies and on blogs all over the world.

It happens so that the first item that moves the slightest public criticism, in this case the courageous parliamentary Pan Shiyi, ends straight on international agencies and on blogs all over the world.

Archeologia delle consolle poratili
Engadget today published a brief history of the game pocket. I was impressed to discover that the idea of having dual screens recently in the Nintendo DS was already experienced by the Nintendo Game & Watch Series (1980-91) (here on left).

Are you listening?
few days ago I tried to do an experiment to attract the attention of Robert Scoble and Shel Israel to this blog. The experiment essentially failed, but the outcome is not definitive. An essential part of the experiment was the assumption that Technorati would show my posts using the keyword "Naked Conversations". In fact (as anyone can see ) is not so. The same result is obtained by filtering the results in Italian only . Strange ... Then this morning I read Blog Casual.info.in.a.bottle that he too has noticed the same problem ... What happens to Technorati?

How To Make A Homemade Motor Boat
Apple lancia un origami?
In the evening we will know what this "fun new product" by Steve Jobs announced a few days ago. Meanwhile, the engadget site asked its readers to imagine what could be this new device. The results are available in this fantastic gallery . Among the cases most likely talking about a video iPod, a tablet PC or a stereo-to-the-portable-type-rapper-80-years in which you can insert your iPod and enjoy the music amplified. I'd love it to be the second but I think it will be the third. :-)

Cos'è origami?
For some days there is much talk of this secret project called the Microsoft Origami. The official website does not say much, and refers users to the date of March 2, 2006. A strategy to create the expectation now quite settled anywhere. Too bad that the 'D communications agency igitalKitchen (you must click on Enter the main site, then enter again and choose WORK / Brandtheatre) responsible for implementing the clip has decided to update their website too ... solerizia However, the video shows a device of DIMENSIONS halfway between a PDA and a Tablet PC that is used as a music player in order to draw (see the application you are using is already available in time for tablet pc), as GPS, like screen to view and send photos (in connection with a mobile phone) come cornice per le foto digitali, come telecomando per un media center, come consolle portatile, per collegarsi a Internet...

Naked conversations italian translation
I started reading Naked Conversations by Robert Scoble and Shel Israel a few days. A book that deserves a translation into Italian especially to get to that vast audience of managers that we do not know neither English nor what the blogs are still less, read the 95 theses of the Cluetrain Manifesto . I wondered how to contact Scoble and I quickly mentally probed all traditional methods (email, try contacting some knowledge in Microsoft, write an official letter). Then I got an idea. Try to put into practice what Scoble and Israel recount in their book. In fact, this post was built, as well as in order to suggest to everyone (especially those who believe that blogs are useless) reading this book, even to get this request to the authors at the same time to see if Scoble Israel and actually eat the food they pack for their dogs / readers. The idea of Naked Conversations is that, through blogs, consumers may come into contact with the manufacturers through a medium of communication not reproduces the asymmetry of producer / consumer. The authors tell how sadly quite foolish for companies that produce goods and services ignore the opinions and judgments that consumers are exchanged over the Internet through blogs. More: monitoring is not enough. You need to go into these conversations and trying to defend the goodness of its products or the good name of your company directly into these conversations without a net. Not through the voices of the official press office, but through those of people who contribute to design and create products of that company. So I guess Scoble and Isreal will use a service like technorati to monitor what readers say about their book. If so was a good way to attract their attention and ask for permission for the translation could be a post like this ... Robert, Shel ... if you can read this then you are really eating the food of your dog. We'd like to ask you the rights to translate Naked Conversations in Italian. If u are interested just leave a comment here.

Machinima? Nothing new ... Once upon a time
Peter pointed out to me in a comment to the previous post that the phenomenon of which I speak is nothing new and exists since the first episode of Quake. Ineffective the voice machinima on Wikipedia dates the phenomenon to the early 90s and identifies the roots even in the demo a little psychedelic with which most of the pirates signed their performance during the early '80s. In my view, however, the most interesting part of Wired is summed up in that "for the masses." I believe that after all is only one aspect of a more general tendency to create / edit. Until a few years ago the masses could only benefit from these content. Today, thanks to a series of widely available technologies for the production and distribution of content, a growing band of people can experience the thrill of participating in mass communication from the perspective of the issuer and the recipient. Mass communication is no longer "read only". This process, "Getting Media" will have an impact today, it is difficult to understand the size but, in my view, can be compared to other historic transition characterized by access to certain technologies of mass communication (see the printing press of which still struggle to understand the real consequences on the structure of our society).
